The Minister of the Interior Lionel Beffre visits the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service

Lionel Beffre, the new Minister of the Interior, paid a visit the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service on Friday 23 August 2024. He was welcomed by Lieutenant-Colonel Maxime Yvrard, Chief Officer of the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service, in the presence of Tony Varo, Supreme Commander of the Military Force, at the La Condamine Emergency Response Centre, where he began by reviewing the troops, who wore their new work and firefighting attire for the first time. He then attended a detailed presentation of the Event Management and Emergency Operations Centre, the General Staff offices and the Centre’s equipment. 

Mr Beffre watched several on-the-ground manoeuvres throughout the day which illustrated the professionalism and rigorous training of the teams, as well as the technical expertise and operational efficiency of the specialist units.

The Service presented SAFFIRE, its combat, fire smoke and reconnaissance training simulator at the Brasca site. Mr Beffre then met with the high-risk intervention and rescue unit (GSIP), the drone reconnaissance and command support unit (DRAC) and the intervention, rescue and removal unit (GISD) at Fort Masséna.  It was also an opportunity for Mr Beffre to observe the technical capabilities of the “Prince Jacques” fire and rescue boat (EIS), moored at Port Hercule, during an offshore visit.

The visit ended at the Fontvieille Emergency Response Centre with an exercise conducted by the technological risk intervention unit (GIRT), after which Mr Beffre signed the Service’s guest book.
