Marine and Airport Police Division rescues two swimmers in difficulties

Un plongeur de la Division de Police Maritime et Aéroportuaire

During the afternoon of Friday 21 July 2017, the Marine and Airport Police Division equipped the boat Le Libecciu with a team of two divers, a second vessel and a deputy sergeant in order to rescue two swimmers in considerable difficulties in waters off the solarium on Promenade Stefano-Casiraghi.

Despite heavy seas and warning signs put in place that very morning highlighting the dangerous nature of the area, two visiting tourists entered the water from the solarium and found themselves unable to return to dry land without assistance.

Arriving rapidly on the scene in treacherous seas, two police rescue officers immediately entered the water to assist the two stricken swimmers, one of whom was in an advanced state of distress.

Hoisted aboard the police vessel with some difficulty, the two swimmers were then taken to Port Hercule where they were immediately transferred to the care of the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service. One, in a state of shock and suffering from mild hypoxia, was taken to the Emergency Unit at Princess Grace Hospital for appropriate treatment.
