Under Sovereign Order No. 7068 of 26 July 2018, and following the transfer of command between Colonel Luc Fringant and Colonel Tony Varo, Lieutenant-Colonel Norbert Fassiaux now heads the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service.

Norbert Fassiaux was born in the Principality and is the son and grandson of Monaco firefighters.  After completing his university studies in Marseille, he became a member of the Paris Fire Brigade, and then joined the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service in 1983 as a Lieutenant.

He was promoted to Captain in 1995, then Commander in 2008, and served as Colonel Tony Varo's Deputy since 2010.  In 2015, Norbert Fassiaux was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel.

The new Commanding Officer has identified four priorities for his missions:

-          continue the approach undertaken by his predecessors, which set the Corps on the path to excellence and innovation,

-          listen more to the staff members’ needs and enhance the quality of human relations,

-          lay the foundations for the Fire and Emergency Service of the future, both in terms of personnel and barracks,

-          pursue a policy of weighed modernity (to include, for example, the running of its future Events Management and Emergency Operations Centre and the use of drones on call outs) by adapting current know-how while respecting military traditions.
