Information and awareness message regarding fraudulent phone calls
Currently, residents in the Principality of Monaco are the recipients of fraudulent phone calls, made using foreign phone numbers that are often concealed, making any attempt to trace them difficult.
For the most part, fraudsters pose as police officers or lawyers and call elderly people, telling them a member of their family has been involved in a serious road accident.
They ask that a large amount of money (in cash or jewellery, for example) be paid to receive assistance.
This is a scam aimed at swindling potential victims who are willing to do as requested.
- Recipients of such calls are asked to:
- IGNORE THE CALL
- REFUSE TO COMPLY WITH THE CALLER’S REQUEST
- BLOCK THE TELEPHONE NUMBER
- CONTACT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT (93.15.30.15)
