Formal Sitting to Mark the New Session of the Courts and Tribunals
The traditional formal sitting to mark the start of the new session of the Principality’s courts and tribunals took place on Monday 1 October 2018 at the Palais de Justice, in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince. It was preceded by a celebration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit in Monaco Cathedral and marks the start of the 2018/2019 judicial year.
This autumn session is marked by the appointment of the new Public Prosecutor, Ms. Petit-Leclair, who, in her speech, mentioned that she wished to "make my experience of more than 35 years, acquired in French courts and abroad, available to the Monegasque judiciary, which I am now serving, as well as my energy and my wish to meet the expectations of all members of the legal community and professionals who work alongside the judges."
The opening speech, on the theme "Plea of Complicity or Plea of Breakdown" was given by lawyer Yann Lajoux, who is President of the Monaco Bar Association.
Ms. Brigitte Grinda-Gambarini, First President of the Court of Appeal, concluded the Sitting by emphasising the importance of protecting the serenity of members of the judiciary, regardless of the length of their term of office. She recalled that, among the major achievements of the past year, the Master II course offered by the University of Nice now included basic modules of Monegasque law.
