The South Region and Principality of Monaco agree to a new plan for railway construction between Nice and Ventimiglia
A new working meeting was held today with Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development; Jean-Pierre Serrus, First President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region for transportation and sustainable mobility; SNCF Voyageurs, SNCF Réseau and regional and Monegasque authorities to discuss construction planned on the Nice-Ventimiglia line from 15 September 2024 to 26 June 2025 and the related substitution plan.
The South Region and the Principality of Monaco have joined forces to:
- reject the construction plan proposed by the SNCF on the Nice – Ventimiglia rail link
- ask the SNCF to modify the construction plan and adjust the substitution plan to better meet the needs of travellers and the expectations of the Principality
Two meetings held on 13 and 16 September recalled the issues at stake and the start of construction work was initially delayed for a short period; another result of the meeting was the cancellation of work scheduled for the evening of the Champions League match between AS Monaco – FC Barcelona on 19 September.
A new construction plan was signed at today’s meeting that includes:
- train service until 10 pm (initially, service ended at 9 pm),
- cancellation of work on evenings when there is a match starting at 9 pm,
- and, as a result, extended construction hours in the morning, with no impact on the initial transport plan.
The South Region and the Principality welcome the significant progress achieved, which makes it possible to ensure rail service that better meets the expectations of travellers and Monegasque authorities, while carrying out necessary work to update the Nice-Ventimiglia railway line.
