Mr Olivier Marquet, Avocat-Défenseur and Managing Partner at CMS Pasquier Ciulla Marquet & Pastor, signalled his firm’s commitment to the energy transition movement yesterday, Tuesday 26 November, by signing the National Energy Transition Pact in CMS’s new offices, witnessed by Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development; Annabelle Jaeger-Seydoux, Director of the Mission for Energy Transition, and her team; and partners from CMS.

By way of introduction, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia emphasised the importance of signing up to the National Pact and congratulated members of the law firm on their involvement in this collective endeavour to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with an initial 50% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030.

Speaking on behalf of all members of the firm, Olivier Marquet declared himself proud to be “getting the ball rolling”, happy to be pursuing a holistic management approach and confident that his colleagues were very much aware of this issue.

Conscious that there are some issues specific to Monaco, the firm’s employees are taking action on an everyday basis. Internal work to raise awareness has already begun and will take shape with this signing of the National Pact, which is being accompanied by some concrete and immediate actions. In early 2020, CMS Pasquier Ciulla Marquet & Pastor will host an awareness session run by the Mission for Energy Transition. This will be followed by a presentation focusing on a specific energy transition project at the firm. The aim is to accelerate momentum by getting all staff involved in the movement, so that commitment extends across all levels.

CMS has already embarked on a review of teleworking, and initiatives to switch from paper to electronic documents and purchase a water fountain. Actions to reduce waste at source are also being put in place, including the reuse of outdated envelopes and the repurposing of old headed paper to make notepads.
