United Nations - Monaco at 63rd session of Commission on the Status of Women
H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco, Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, took part in the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women held on Friday 15 March. The theme for this year’s session was “social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls”. In her speech, the Ambassador highlighted the fact that 7.5% of global GDP is lost as a result of gender-based discrimination (OECD report, March 2019).
She also gave a broad outline of the Principality’s social protection policy, noted the establishment of a Women’s Rights Committee in the country, and discussed Monaco’s Department of International Cooperation efforts in Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo and East Timor.
Finally, the Ambassador advocated the inclusion of a reference to sport, an essential right for girls and women, in the agreed conclusions on the Commission’s work.
