The President of the PACE Visits the Principality

Mr. Pedro Agramunt, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), made an official visit to Monaco on 3 and 4 November 2016.

He was received in Audience by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and met with Mr. Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

At their meeting, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Mr. Tonelli discussed the major challenges Europe is facing with regard to safeguarding the values of democracy and the respect of human rights when confronted with the migration crisis and the threat of terrorism.

Mr. Agramunt presented a new campaign to the Minister, entitled "Neither Hate nor Fear," initiated by the Parliamentary Assembly.   The aim of this campaign is to involve all the players in society in dealing with these phenomena.

Also discussed were the conflicts in Europe and the role of the Parliamentary Assembly in maintaining dialogue between the parties.

The PACE is the deliberating body of the Council of Europe.  It is comprised of 324 parliamentarians from the 47 parliaments of the member States of the Council of Europe.  As a forum for discussion, it debates international and European events from the angle of respecting and protecting human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
