Ratification of the Protocol of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women
The instrument of ratification of the optional Protocol of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), signed by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, was presented on Monday 3 May 2016 to the Secretary General of the United Nations, who is the depository of the Convention.
This Protocol complements the CEDAW Convention by according the Committee for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women the authority and means to deal with complaints submitted directly to it by individuals or groups with regard to serious or systematic breaches of the Convention, after exhausting all internal avenues of complaint. This Committee has taken decisions concerning the sexist murder of women and girls, forced sterilisation and domestic violence.
The Principality has thus become the 107th State Party to this Protocol.
