A ceremony marking the handover of the European Commission’s “World Aquariums against Plastic Pollution” campaign to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was held at the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco on Tuesday 3 March.

In the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Laurent Anselmi signed a framework cooperation agreement with Ms Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the UNEP.

Given the significance accorded to the environment in the Principality’s foreign policy, the Prince’s Government was keen to strengthen institutional dialogue and strategic collaboration with UNEP, which is an international authority on environmental issues. The agreement also seeks to consolidate the various financial contributions that the Principality makes to UNEP, including to support its efforts to combat plastic pollution at sea and on sustainable management of coral reefs.
