Presentation of Letters of Credence by H.E. Ms. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Permanent Representative of the Principality to UNIDO
On 9 February 2016, in Vienna, H.E. Ms. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï presented Mr. Li Yong, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with Letters of Credence accrediting her to that Organization as Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco.
At a private meeting, Mr. Li recalled UNIDO's major role in the world development programme. He pointed out that UNIDO's activities are focussed in particular on reducing poverty, on inclusive globalisation and environmental protection and stated that the Organization therefore played a full role in achieving the "Sustainable Development Goals" adopted by the United Nations General Assembly last September.
For her part, H.E. Ms. Berro-Amadeï emphasised the points of convergence that exist between UNIDO's objectives and the priorities of the Principality of Monaco. It is in this context that the Principality supported a project by UNIDO that had been developed as part of the "reducing poverty through productive activities" programme with the aim of creating and developing businesses in the region of Gafsa (Tunisia). The Ambassador also recalled that, in 2012, Mr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, who at that time was Director General of UNIDO, had participated in the "Euro-Mediterranean Forum on Energy Efficiency," organised in the Principality by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
