Opening of Diplomatic Relations between the Principality and Sri Lanka

The Principality of Monaco and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations on 26 July 2016 at a ceremony held in the reception rooms of the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka.

At this ceremony, H.E. Ms. Isabelle Picco, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations and H.E. Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, discussed the links that already exist between the Permanent Missions, and the convergence of views between the two countries on many points at the United Nations.

Ambassador Perera, Permanent Representative of the oldest democracy in South-East Asia and H.E. Ms. Picco discussed the importance both countries place on peace and the rule of law, as well as issues linked to sustainable development and climate change, in particular matters relating to the oceans.

Sri Lanka is the 131st country to establish diplomatic relations with the Principality.
