Monaco attends meeting of UN Refugee Agency
Faced with the unprecedented migration crisis caused by the conflict in Syria, the UN Secretary General, who called for the meeting, expressed his hope that all legal solutions would be considered in order to improve the reception and settlement of Syrian refugees.
In his introductory remarks, Mr Ban Ki-moon recalled that the situation was the biggest refugee and human displacement crisis of our time, demanding an exponential increase in global solidarity. Mr Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, noted that the intention of the meeting was above all to mobilise the international community to identify innovative ways to help restore the dignity of refugees.
The meeting is part of a wider process intended to address the large-scale movements of refugees and migrants, which will conclude with a high-level summit in New York on 19 September, during the next UN General Assembly.
