Monaco Takes Part in the 1st Ordinary Session of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme
From 20 to 23 February 2017, Monaco took part in the work of the 1st Session of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme (WFP). At this meeting, the WFP launched its new Roadmap, which includes three new policies on climate change, the environment and nutrition, in response to SDG No. 2, "End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture" and the Paris Agreement.
Monaco's speech was an opportunity to highlight the commitment of the Prince's Government to the WFP (2nd UN partner) and pay tribute to the Executive Director, Ms. Ertharin Cousin. During her five-year mandate, Ms. Cousin has reformed the organisation and increased its efficacy by associating urgent humanitarian aid with development programmes in order to meet the "Zero Hunger Challenge."
At a side-event of the session, H.E. Mr. Robert Fillon, Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco to Italy, Permanent Representative to the FAO and Ms. Martine Garcia, Deputy Alternate Representative to the FAO and the WFP, met with Mr. Abdou Dieng, Regional Director of the WFP for Central and West Africa. Together, they discussed developing the partnership with Monaco's Official Development Assistance*.
