At the review of the 64th Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by the General Assembly in New York, the Principality of Monaco spoke to reaffirm its commitment to and support for the development of peaceful uses of nuclear technology, as defined in Article IV of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, highlighted by the IAEA’s Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi in his opening address: “peaceful use of the atom benefits the entire international community.”

The Monegasque delegation emphasised uses in the fields of health and the environment. The Principality has historically supported the IAEA’s Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) and is at the cutting edge of nuclear medicine technology, as demonstrated by the opening of a nuclear cardiology unit featuring the latest equipment in September this year.

In addition, the IAEA’s environment laboratories hosted by Monaco collect data which is crucial to understanding the challenges we face and developing sustainable strategies.
