Celebrating International Francophonie Day at UNESCO
International Francophonie Day is celebrated throughout the world every year on 20 March in French-speaking countries.
On 27 March 2017, the Group of Francophone countries at UNESCO held an evening event on the theme of "La Francophonie in Freedom" ("Francophonie en Liberté") at the Organisation's headquarters in Paris. More than 300 participants attended a visual show on the theme of freedom of expression and cultural diversity. This event was followed by a reception, at which many traditional dishes were provided by several of the member States, including the Principality.
Monaco has been a member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie since 1970 and is actively involved in the activities of this entity, which aims to promote French language and culture. In this context, the Permanent Delegation of Monaco to UNESCO is committed to supporting the mission of the Francophone Group of UNESCO, in particular through voluntary contributions. This Group ensures that the values of La Francophonie are respected within this United Nations Agency
