What Shall We Do Next? (Séquence #3), a Performance by Julien Prévieux at the Villa Paloma

Julien Prévieux - What Shall We Do Next? (Sequence #2), 2014 - HD video (film still), 16'47'' – Performers:   Rebecca Bruno, Kestrel Leah, Jos McKain, Samantha Mohr, Andrew Pearson and Anna Martine Whitehead.

On Friday 18 and Sunday 20 November, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., as part of the exhibition "Dance, Dance, Dance," the New National Museum of Monaco – Villa Paloma is presenting WhatShall We Do Next? (Séquence #3), a performance by Julien Prévieux, interpreted by Marion Carriau, Sophie Demeyer, K. Goldstein and Kate Moran.

What Shall We Do Next? (Séquence #3) is a performance thattakes "patented" gestures as a starting point.  The artist has created a choreographic work by selecting gestures that have been patented by companies from the American industrial property agency's web site.  This performance is a veritable archive of "gestures of the future," and is an opportunity for Julian Prévieux to ponder on the ownership of our most common gestures and the way in which we are constantly made to change the repertoire of our "body techniques."  The aim is to show what our physical future could be like, how we will move our hands and eyes in five or ten years' time and ask to whom our gestures belong.

Born in 1974 in Grenoble (France), Julien Prévieux lives and works in Paris, France.  An indefatigable explorer and analyst of the madness of everyday life, he cross-references the visual arts, display and experimentation, as well as libraries, new technologies and choreography.  More specifically, the artist appropriates the very specific language used by companies to unveil its strategies and ramifications.

Julien Prévieux was the winner of the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2014. He recently exhibited at the Pompidou Centre and the RISD Museum of Art, Providence, USA, and has a forthcoming exhibition at the University of Toronto Art Centre, Canada.

Villa Paloma: Friday 18 and Sunday 20 November from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (admission free)
