In the presence of Jean-Luc Van Klaveren, Ambassador of Monaco to Spain, and Soledad Murillo, Secretary of State for Equality, the first "Outside the Walls" lecture of the season, organised by the Prince Pierre Foundation, was held yesterday, Monday 25 March, in the Auditorium of the Prado Museum in Madrid.

The subject of this lecture, given by Leticia Ruiz Gómez, Head of the Spanish Renaissance Painting Department at the Prado Museum, was:

Female Painters at the Prado Museum

Sofonisba Anguissola and Lavinia Fontana:  Two Models of the Female Artist

This lecture is a prelude to an exhibition on these artists that will be on display at this renowned museum in Madrid from 22 October 2019.

Sofonisba Anguissola (1535-1625) and Lavinia Fontana (1552-1614) are two noteworthy female artists in the history of Western art.  Through their artistic journey, they achieved recognition and fame among their contemporaries because of, and despite, their status as female painters.

Since 2018, the Prince Pierre Foundation has been increasing its cultural influence by organising lectures in France and abroad on topics related to culture and topical issues.

The next "Outside the Walls" lecture will take place on Tuesday 16 April at the French Cultural Institute in the United Kingdom, in London - Hans-Ulrich Obrist, curator, critic and art historian, will discuss "New Experiences in Art and Technology (NEAT)."
