Opening of the 8th International Monaco and the Mediterranean Meetings
"The 8th International Monaco and the Mediterranean Meetings" have just opened at the Oceanographic Museum, in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, the Minister of State and numerous dignitaries. The Meetings were founded by Elisabeth Bréaud, President and Director. The theme this year is "Tomorrow the Mediterranean. How to Inhabit the World Differently."
In His opening speech, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince emphasised that "Inhabiting a place differently means staying where we are, but with different attitudes that would make our growing presence more tolerable for the world around us … I invite neighbouring Mediterranean countries, as far as possible, to work to reduce the impact of their habitat on ecosystems."
The inaugural speeches were given by Pascal Canfin, Director General of WWF France and former Minister for Development and the Egyptian writer Ala Al-Aswany.
H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince presented the 2016 RIMM Prize to Thierry Fabre, founder of the Averroès Meetings.
The colloquium will close on Friday 18 March at 5.30 p.m. with a screening/performance of "Our Era" ("Notre époque") by photographer Franck Pourcel.
Open to the public, admission free
