Lecture by Professor de Lumley on the Lady of Cavillon

In the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and Patrice Cellario, Minister of Interior, Professor Henry de Lumley, Director of the Institute of Human Palaeontology, has just given a lecture on "The Lady of Cavillon" – 24,000 Years Ago" on the occasion of the publication of a monograph on the Cave of Cavillon.

Situated under the cliff of Baousse Rousse, in Grimaldi (Ventimiglia), the Cave of Cavillion was excavated by Prince Albert I at the beginning of the last century.  In this cave, the tomb of the Lady of Cavillon, who died aged thirty-seven 24,000 years ago, was discovered.  Interestingly, this woman was adorned with a funerary headpiece, which suggests that the people of this time might have believed in life after death.
