Death of Marie-Claude Beaud

The Government of Monaco and the Department of Cultural Affairs were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Marie-Claude Beaud, a leading figure in contemporary art, who was Director of the New National Museum of Monaco from 2009 to 2021.

In 2005, Marie-Claude Beaud was entrusted with the artistic direction of the Prince Pierre Foundation's International Prize for Contemporary Art. Her exceptional career led her to direct the Musée de Grenoble, the Musée de Toulon, the Fondation Cartier and then the Musée d'Art Moderne du Grand-Duc Jean du Luxembourg. In 2009, she was appointed Director of the New National Museum of Monaco. She helped to modernise the NMNM, which opened a new exhibition space, the Villa Paloma, in 2010. She ended her career in 2021 by presenting the public with Marginalia, her last exhibition dedicated to the art of the comic strip, through which she wished to ‘pay tribute to the artists who enable us to explore new worlds every time’.

The Government of Monaco and the Department of Cultural Affairs extend their deepest condolences to her family and friends.
