In View of the Spread of COVID-19 Around the World, the Steering Committee of Expo 2020 Dubai, Which Met on Monday 30 March, Recommends Postponing the Event for One Year

Albert CROESI, General Commissioner of Monaco's Pavilion and lead manager of Monaco Inter Expo, wishes to inform all public and para-public entities, as well as players in the economic and cultural sectors of the Principality of Monaco, of the progress of the discussions being conducted jointly by the Expo Dubai 2020 Authorities and the participating countries.

With just over six months before the opening, which is scheduled for 20 October, the Expo 2020 Steering Committee is examining the possibility of postponing the Expo for a year.  The United Arab Emirates, aware that this platform represents a major undertaking with much at stake and an estimated 25 million visitors, understands the approach taken by those involved with regard to postponing the Expo.

"In a spirit of solidarity and unity, we have supported the proposal to explore the possibility of a one-year postponement.  We look forward to welcoming the world, which we are sure will emerge stronger and more resilient from this challenge," commented His Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, the UAE's Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo 2020 Dubai.  An agreement will therefore have to be approved by member countries of the Bureau International des Expositions in the coming weeks.

At present, construction of the Pavilions on the Expo site is continuing in compliance with safety regulations and barrier measures, and this is also the case for the Monaco Pavilion site.  In the Principality, the Monaco Inter Expo teams remain ready to prepare and ensure the smooth running of the Pavilion's schedule.  The Expo world is one big family, and in these special circumstances the collective energy will be even more positive and hopeful if a postponement of the Expo is decided upon for 2021.
