COVID-19: Second meeting of Joint COVID-19 Monitoring Committee held on Friday 3 April

A second meeting of the Joint COVID-19 Monitoring Committee was held on Friday 3 April at the Ministry of State.

In accordance with the wishes of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, the Minister of State chaired the meeting, which provided an opportunity for the Prince’s Government to inform members of the National Council of the decisions that it had been required to take or would need to take to manage the health crisis associated with the coronavirus, in a spirit of national unity between the executive branch and the National Council.

During the meeting, the health situation and supply of medical equipment in the Principality were discussed.

The key elements of the first amended budget for 2020 were also covered.
The amended budget is due to be reviewed by the Plenary Review Commission very shortly.

At this second meeting of the advisory committee, the Prince’s Government detailed the results of implementing teleworking during the lockdown period. Teleworking has been adopted by 993 businesses in the Principality, and now applies to 10,381 employees compared with 1,300 before the COVID-19 crisis. It is becoming the norm, and a recently published decision issued by the Minister of State has made it mandatory wherever possible.

It should be noted that a second decision taken by the Government, which makes it impossible to dismiss staff except in the event of misconduct, has also entered into force in recent days.

The meeting additionally included discussion of the exceptional measures adopted to address the health crisis, while members of the National Council presented some supplementary measures. These will be reviewed by the Prince’s Government over the coming days.

The next meeting of the Joint COVID-19 Monitoring Committee is scheduled for Thursday 9 April.
