The Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women's Rights presented its sixth annual activity report at a plenary meeting attended by representatives of Monegasque institutions, the Department of Justice, and other government departments and associations working to promote women's rights.

The Committee, chaired by Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, was created in 2018; its efforts have since been recognised throughout the Principality and firmly established in the Monegasque public sphere.  It has also garnered much praise from international bodies responsible for assessing the Principality's progress in combating violence against women and promoting gender equality.

During the plenary meeting, which began with a minute's silence in memory of H.E. Didier Guillaume, the Country Chief Women’s Rights Officer, Céline Cottalorda, highlighted the main achievements of 2024:

• Two collective awareness-raising campaigns: the 8 March ‘POWHER’ campaign, which saw all those working towards equality join forces, and the 25 November campaign, which raised awareness of invisible violence through an e-book and a week of conferences.

• The development of a violence scale to measure intimate partner violence, including violence in relationships between young people.

• The training of 94 professionals working in the field of domestic violence and 218 civil servants and government employees tasked with combating sexism in the workplace.

Ms Cottalorda emphasised that ‘’since 2018, the Committee has strived to embed women's rights in the Monegasque public sphere‘’ and that ‘’even though we are discussing women and women's rights, involving an increasing number of men in this cause is still a key issue‘’.

The main areas of work for 2025 include the following:

• Continue to involve men and the general public

• Gain a better understanding of the gender pay gap

• Continue to roll out joint initiatives

In conclusion, Isabelle Berro-Amadeï stressed that poverty, conflicts, humanitarian crises, all forms of violence, inequality and lack of access to social protection, education and the labour market are creating unacceptable situations of vulnerability on a global scale. She thanked all the stakeholders and members of the Committee for their dedication, their actions and their ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality.

The Committee's next meeting is scheduled to be held on International Women's Rights Day, Saturday 8 March, at the Espace Léo Ferré.
