Storm Alex: Principality expresses solidarity with storm victims in Alpes-Maritimes and Roya region

Although Storm Alex, fortunately, had only a very limited impact on Monaco, the slopes of the Alpes-Maritimes region, which surround the Principality, were cruelly ravaged by the elements.

The Prince’s Government expresses its heartfelt sympathies to the relatives of those who so suddenly lost their lives during the severe weather. The Government is also keen to demonstrate its complete solidarity with those affected by the destruction left in the wake of this very unusual storm. The Principality and its inhabitants have strong historical, cultural, economic and friendly ties with these neighbouring regions.

On Saturday morning, the Principality of Monaco offered logistical and human assistance to emergency operations in the neighbouring department. Monegasque firefighters stood ready to provide reinforcements for pumping and excavation efforts. A detachment was mobilised to carry out potential drone reconnaissance missions if requested by France.

At the request of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, and in full cooperation with the National Council, the Prince’s Government also took the decision to release initial emergency funding to support victims of the storm and contribute to future rebuilding efforts.

In addition, the Principality’s technical and human resources will, as needed, provide support to the teams leading the rebuilding work.
