Offshore urban extension project: first caisson unveiled

Yesterday evening saw the symbolic unveiling of the first caisson for the offshore urban extension project.

Numerous guests were invited by SAM Anse du Portier, the project lead, to witness the unveiling of the Prince’s monogram on the side of the structure, including H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, who boarded a boat for the occasion. The Prince was accompanied by Andréa Casiraghi, Bouygues CEO Martin Bouygues, Managing Director of SAM Anse du Portier Guy Thomas Levy-Soussan, Minister of State Serge Telle, and Monseigneur Barsi, who blessed the caisson.

The ceremony marked the first visible stage of what is a symbolic project for the Principality.

Seventeen further caissons will join this first structure over the course of the next 12 months, to create a protective belt designed to counter the sea swell. The maritime infrastructure will be fully completed by 2020.

The future eco-district, which has been named Portier Cove, will extend over six hectares and will comprise:

  •        60,000 m² of space
  •        A one-hectare public park
  •        A 3,000 m2 retail area
  •        A 9,000 m2 extension for Grimaldi Forum Monaco
  •        A marina with approximately 30 moorings
  •        Public facilities, including a 160-space car park
