On 15 April 2024, in Vienna (Austria), H.E. Mr. Lorenzo Ravano, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and Dr Kari Johnstone, OSCE Coordinator for action against trafficking in human beings, renewed the agreement in support of the programme: “Combating trafficking in human beings: support for inter-institutional collaboration through national simulation-based training”.

This renewed agreement, signed in parallel to the 24th Conference of the Alliance Against Trafficking in Persons illustrates the unwavering support of the Principality to fight a scourge that strikes the most vulnerable.

The Principality has therefore decided to devote part of its official development assistance to this programme for Mediterranean countries. It is estimated that there are 27 million victims of modern slavery or sexual exploitation in the world, one third of whom are children. These activities generate $150 billion each year.

Experts will be trained with the aim of pursuing the following objectives:

  • foster inter-agency collaboration and develop networks among practitioners, across borders.
  • improve the identification of cases of trafficking in migratory flows and promote the referral of trafficked persons to assistance providers.
  • promote victim-centred protection and assistance and encourage proactive investigation of trafficking cases.
