Monaco attends the 10th session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

On 11 and 12 June 2024, H.E. Anne-Marie Boisbouvier, Ambassador and Monaco’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, together with diplomats of Monaco to UNESCO, and Mr Julien Cellario, Director of Heritage Operations at the Monaco Heritage Institute attended the tenth session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held at the Organisation’s headquarters in Paris.

Over the course of two days, the States Parties addressed issues relating to the safeguarding of living heritage around the world and the implementation of the Convention.

The main items on the agenda were the Reports by the Intergovernmental Committee and the Secretariat on their respective activities in 2022 and 2023, the Plan for the use of the resources of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund, the accreditation of new non-governmental organizations, the Report on the twentieth anniversary of the 2002 Convention in 2023, as well as the Election of twelve new members of the Committee.

The twelve new members of the Committee elected by acclamation on 11 June are:  Algeria, Barbados, China, Dominican Republic, France, Haiti, Nigeria, Spain, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and Zambia.

 

The Principality of Monaco has been a party to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage since 4 June 2007 and is a donor country to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund, which assists the States Parties in their efforts to safeguard this heritage. To date, 183 States are party to the Convention.
