The Trade Observatory met for the first time since lockdown was lifted on Wednesday 29 July 2020, under the chairmanship of Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Monegasque traders who attended, representing the main districts and shopping centres, as well as representatives from the National Council, Monaco City Hall, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, the Chambre Immobilière Monégasque, Monaco Statistics (IMSEE), the Monegasque Hospitality Industry Association, the Monaco Union of Traders and Artisans and relevant government departments to review the current trading situation in the Principality and discuss progress on ideas raised during thematic meetings before the COVID-19 crisis.

The Prince’s Government recalled the actions that it had been taking in recent weeks to support the economic recovery and promote the country’s commercial appeal.

The meeting was also a chance for participants to consider measures that could be introduced in the short, medium and long terms to give a fresh boost to Monegasque trade and the food service sector.

In drawing the meeting to a close, Jean Castellini reiterated his support for retail trade and catering stakeholders, who have all been hit hard by the unprecedented crisis. He confirmed the need to implement specific measures in addition to the various financial aid packages that have already made available to these sectors.
