Launch of the 2016 "Students on Ice"

As part of the 2016 "Students on Ice" programme, the Prince Albert II Monaco Foundation and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport invited Year 12 General Studies students to attend a film screening and lecture on regions of the world where the environment is under threat.  The launch of the latest "Students on Ice" was an opportunity for photographer Joe Bunni, founder of the "S.O.S. Océans" association, to share his passion for the aquatic world and present his documentary entitled "+ ou – 5 mètres : pister l’ours polaire" (Plus or Minus 5 Metres – Tracking the Polar Bear."

This event took place on 29 January 2016 at Monaco's Vocational and Catering School (Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco), in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II.  As a reminder, "Students on Ice" is in line with the Sovereign Prince's wish to promote education in sustainable development to young people in the Principality.

The two winners of the 2015 "Students on Ice" competition were Frédérika Giorcelli, a Year 13 (Terminale S) pupil at the Lycée Albert 1er and Justin Sargenti, a Year 13 (Terminale S) pupil at the Lycée François d’Assise – Nicolas Barré.

At the launch of the 2016 competition, they presented a report they had made last August to raise their fellow students' awareness of the degradation of the Arctic world.

In 2016, two new students will set off for the Arctic on a scientific mission dedicated to protecting the environment.  In particular, their work will focus on the theme of "commitment".
