The crucial role of corporate governance in achieving equality

The Committee set up to promote and safeguard women’s rights is launching a new phase of its equality campaign. Following the publication of the findings of an IMSEE study on the gender pay gap, this latest phase of the campaign will focus on equality in corporate governance.

It has been illustrated in a series of three images that put women at the centre of corporate decision-making. The aim is to challenge the under-representation of women in key roles, whether at management level, in boardrooms, or in senior executive positions. Equality between men and women requires active participation in strategic workplace decision-making.

The Committee's campaign is based on statistics compiled by IMSEE, Monaco’s official statistics body, showing that women make up 27.9% of board members in the Principality. Two other statistics provide a broader picture of the situation worldwide. The first shows that female senior executives are underrepresented in strategic functions (as opposed to support functions such as human resources). The second shows that the size of a company influences the likelihood of its being led by a woman. The bigger the company, the larger the number of steps to the top, and the more likely a woman is to find her prospects limited by a glass ceiling.

Like previous campaigns, this latest one takes the form of images and an animated video featuring the information and the inclusive slogan “Everyone has their place...”.

It can be found on the website www.dfm.mc  and on the Committee’s social media pages (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) using the hashtag #égalitéjagis.
