As part of the Extended Monaco programme, two interactive 3D terminals, aimed primarily at tourists and other visitors discovering the Principality, have been installed at the Tourist Office and in the main concourse at the railway station, near the tourist information point.

This is one of the first examples of using the Principality’s digital twin for the benefit of the general public. The terminals provide a virtual 3D replica of the country, enhanced with additional information. “The terminals are designed to immerse tourists in a virtual representation of the city, enabling people to better understand its topography. The idea is to help them choose what they want to do, and allow them to get their bearings and visualise a route from A to B on foot,” explains Georges Gambarini, Head of the Smart City programme in the Digital Services Department.

The large terminals are equipped with touchscreens and display:

- Points of interest and other useful information, organised by theme: Iconic locations and monuments, Performance and convention venues, Beaches, Photo spots, Shops and markets, Museums, and Parks and gardens
- Suggested itineraries: “A day in Monaco”, “Formula 1 track”, “Nature in the city”, “Monuments and iconic views”

The selected itineraries can be downloaded to a mobile phone by scanning a QR code.

“Digital technology is a necessary addition, indeed a real asset in today’s world. The contribution of the digital twin, thanks to its high quality, is undeniable and further enhances the visitor experience,” emphasises Guy Antognelli, Director of the Tourist and Convention Authority.

There will be a review at the end of the summer period to determine whether any of the content should be changed and to consider the roll-out of additional terminals.
