Monaco Continues its Policy of Welcoming Refugees
Today, in connection with the action that the Principality of Monaco is taking in association with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Principality welcomed a family of Syrian refugees.
These people are Christians, and from the populations most under threat in their country. First of all, they were looked after in Lebanon, where they had taken refuge. They will move to an apartment that has been made available by Monaco, where they will be able to lead a normal life. In addition to the humanitarian aspect, the Principality aims to enable this family to eventually become independent and integrated into their new environment.
As a reminder, in 2010, Monaco signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, enabling the Monegasque Authorities to maintain regular contact with the UNHCR, take part in field visits in the various countries in which joint action is undertaken and provide financial support for programmes to help the most vulnerable populations.
