University of Paris International Campus celebrates International Day of Sport at initiative of Monaco Foundation
To mark the centenary of the University of Paris International Campus (CIUP), Ms Martine Garcia-Mascarenhas, Director of the Monaco Foundation in Paris, and Mr Bertrand Rebours, Director of Sport for the CIUP, celebrated the shared values of sport for peace at a special event on the official programme.
The Monaco Info-produced documentary The Flame of Peace was screened in the Maison Internationale’s Salon Honnorat, which hosted 150 people (residents, Campus house and department directors, employees and sports personalities) to celebrate the day with support from Peace and Sport. Five “Champions of Peace” – top-flight athletes Marlène Nidecker, Diana Gandega, Laurence Fischer, Zakia Khudadadi and Pascal Gentil – were also in attendance, and delivered a powerful message on the strength of their commitment.
The Campus’s core values have much in common with sporting values, and can be seen at work both on campus and in missions led by Peace and Sport around the world. To symbolise these values, Peace and Sport presented a new award recognising the commitment to sport for peace demonstrated by a brilliant student, Vice President of the Campus Residents’ Bureau, Alix Merolle, who is leaving the Campus after four years filled with experiences and encounters.
Finally, a highlight of the day was the full audience’s participation in Peace and Sport’s #WhiteCard campaign, alongside Mr Jean-Marc Sauve, President of the International Campus, Mr Manuel Durán Giménez-Rico, the Spanish Consul General, and Ms Marian Romero, Co-President of the Paris University Club.
