On 11 July 2025, the Embassy of the Principality of Monaco in Germany hosted a reception at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria hotel in Berlin to mark the 20th anniversary of H.S.H. Prince Albert II’s accession to the throne.

H.E. Mr Lorenzo RAVANO welcomed more than 200 guests to the event, including representatives from the Germany Federal Foreign Office, Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, prominent figures from the worlds of economics, finance and culture, and friends of the Principality, in addition to Monaco’s Honorary Consuls in Hamburg, Potsdam, and Warsaw. The presidents of the Club Allemand International de Monaco and around thirty of its members also travelled to Berlin for the reception.

In his speech, H.E. Mr Lorenzo RAVANO described some of the important events that had taken place recently, including the official opening of the new Mareterra ecodistrict, the State Visit by the President of France, and the Blue Economy and Finance Forum held in June.

After paying tribute to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s leadership since his accession, particularly in the cause of the planet and its oceans, the Ambassador emphasised Monaco’s active role on the international stage and the Principality’s soft power, as demonstrated this year in Davos, at Expo 2025 Osaka, and in the sporting arena.

Highlighting the importance of the bonds between Monaco and Germany and the vibrant German community in the Principality, the Ambassador announced that a new Monaco themed area would open in 2026 at Germany’s number one tourist attraction, Europa Park.

Ambassador Catalina CULLAS, Director for Relations with EU Member States, Cross-Border and Regional Cooperation, representing the Federal Foreign Office, hailed the excellent economic ties, shared values, and mutual respect between the two countries.

She also praised the work of the Sovereign Prince, which had earned recognition from several German organisations in recent years (the German Ocean Award in 2016, the Taurus European Culture Prize in 2018, the German Press Freedom Prize in 2020, and the German Sustainability Award in 2022), noting that these distinctions reflected the deep appreciation in Germany for the Sovereign Prince’s personal commitment and the efforts of the Foundation that bears His name.
