The awards ceremony for the 2019 Monaco-Matin Eco Club Trophies took place on Tuesday evening at the Grimaldi Forum, organised by the Monaco Economic Board (MEB), in partnership with the Nice-Matin Group.

At this ceremony, which was attended by the major players in the Principality's economy, the Minister of State, Serge Telle, presented the Special Prize to Michel Boeri, President of the Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM), for the Monaco Grand Prix races, the most iconic of which, the Formula 1 race, has just celebrated its 90th anniversary.

"The Grand Prix reflects the love story between the Principality and millions of car racing enthusiasts," stated the Minister of State.  "It is also the wonderful story of a country that prepares, lives and then clears away the Grand Prix, backed by all the talent of the ACM and the heartfelt work put in by its staff to make the event a success."

For his part, Michel Boeri recalled that "the Grand Prix provided official economic benefits for the Principality of around EUR 90 million, to which should be added another EUR 30 million generated by the other ACM events.  Not to mention visibility at the international level, which is estimated at 1 billion TV viewers!"

A new innovation at the prize awards ceremony of this 9th event was the creation of an International Outreach Prize, awarded by Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy.  The Monte-Carlo Opera, represented by its Director, Jean-Louis Grinda, was the first prize-winner.  This ambassador of Monegasque cultural excellence triumphs on the world's greatest stages, undertakes many co-productions with the greatest theatres and has undertaken successful tours featuring Cécilia Bartoli and Les Musiciens du Prince.  This is a professional achievement for its Director and Stage Manager, whose expertise has also been called upon to direct the prestigious Chorégies d'Orange Festival.

Five other Trophies were awarded to recognise businesspeople in the Principality who have demonstrated real talent in their sector of activity and who help to promote the Monegasque economy through their success:

  • Manager of the Year:  Frédéric Darnet, General Manager of the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort
  • Sustainable Development:  Monaco Bus Company, Roland de Rechniewski
  • Innovation:  Coraliotech, Rachid Benchaouir
  • International:  Mercure International of Monaco, Adnan Houdrouge
  • Made in Monaco:  Cruiseline, Pierre Pelissier
