On 8 April 2025, the Embassy of Monaco in the United States joined the Embassies of France and Costa Rica to host the ‘Blue Talk - Getting Ready for the Third UN Ocean Conference’ event at the Maison Française in Washington D.C.

This event served to highlight global marine issues and the preparations for two key events: the Third United Nations Ocean Conference, being held in Nice in June 2025, and the Blue Economy and Finance Forum, scheduled to take place in the Principality on 7 and 8 June 2025, ahead of the UN conference. The opening speech by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, co-founder of the Senate Ocean Caucus, emphasised the vital importance of international action for ocean protection and the development of the blue economy.

Monaco's Ambassador, H.E. Ms Maguy Maccario Doyle, underlined the Principality's commitment to ocean protection and the importance of bringing all public and private stakeholders together for collective action. She also drew attention to two of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation's initiatives: the ReOcean Fund, a private equity fund dedicated to UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, which invests in innovative companies for the regenerative blue economy, and the Blue Economy Index, a new financial index designed to guide investment in sustainable ocean companies. These initiatives aim to finance practical solutions for preserving marine ecosystems and reducing ocean pollution.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II issued a video message during the event, in which he reaffirmed the importance of the Conference and the Forum as driving forces for a sustainable blue economy. Experts in maritime law and ocean conservation, as well as representatives of the World Bank, convened for two roundtable discussions on ocean governance and the blue economy.
