Monaco World Capital of Sport 2025: The Department of Urban Amenities adorn the Principality with a range of floral installations
Sports are flourishing in floral blooms across the Principality thanks to the Department of Urban Amenities (DAU), which has commissioned a series of spectacular floral installations that will be on display in public spaces in honour of Monaco's designation as World Capital of Sport 2025. Designed and brought to fruition by the dedicated teams at DAU, these floral creations replicate iconic symbols of sport: a life-size Formula 1 car, two sets of three tennis balls, a basketball, two rugby balls and three gymnastic clubs are brought to life in plant form as a tribute to the worlds of sport and plant design. These installations, which can be found in various areas of the Principality, combine horticultural excellence with artistic creativity.
Meticulous work, the fruit of months of preparation
This large-scale project was the result of several months of preparation and meticulous work involving staff at the state-owned Saint-Laurent d'Eze plant nursery, who demonstrated remarkable expertise.
Key figures for the project include:
- 12,000 begonia seeds sown
- 10,000 seedlings transplanted
- 850 Ajuga plants propagated from cuttings
- 8,000 flowers planted
- approximately 400 hours of work
- Eight members of staff at work during different stages of the project, led by two advisors.
Work began at the end of 2024 with the first sowings and cuttings. The various stages – sowing, transplanting, propagating, painting, securing moss, installing sphagnum moss, planting, pinching out, watering and fertilising – were staggered up to the final installation of the flowerbed.
A floral tribute to sport and the Principality
Accompanied by information signs about the corresponding sport, these stunning floral displays enhance Monaco's public spaces and offer both residents and visitors a lively and symbolic display that pays tribute to sport. They are the perfect embodiment of the spirit of Monaco, World Capital of Sport 2025, and bring a strong artistic dimension to the achievement of this title, while demonstrating the continuous commitment and professionalism of the DAU teams, who work tirelessly each day to uplift the Principality.
