On Monday 20 February 2023, H.E. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the Office of the United Nations in Geneva, paid a courtesy call on Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, the new President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

During their meeting, the Ambassador and the President discussed the Principality’s commitment to promoting and protecting international humanitarian law, as well as some of the contexts in which the ICRC is currently working.

H.E. Carole Lanteri also noted the longstanding cooperation between the Prince’s Government and the ICRC, set out in a framework agreement signed in 2018.

Since it was founded in 1863, the ICRC’s sole objective has been to ensure protection and assistance for the victims of armed conflicts and situations of violence. To do this, it acts all over the world, and also encourages the development of international humanitarian law and urges governments and all those who bear arms to respect this branch of law. The ICRC is also the “guardian” of the Geneva Conventions.
