Monaco participates in 2018 OSCE Mediterranean Conference
At the invitation of the Slovakian Government, which is this year chairing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mediterranean Contact Group, H.E. Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Monaco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the OSCE, took part in the OSCE Mediterranean Conference in Malaga (Spain) from 25 to 26 October 2018. H.E. Ms Berro-Amadeï was accompanied by First Counsellor Mr Lorenzo Ravano.
Recognising that security in Europe is closely linked to security in the Mediterranean and that energy and environmental issues are critical factors for strengthening dialogue in the Euro-Mediterranean zone, the high-level segment this year focused on: “The importance of energy for economic growth and cooperation in the Mediterranean.”
Three discussion sessions tackled the role of energy as a factor of growth, cooperation and connectivity; protecting critical energy infrastructure; and developing renewable energy sources.
In her speech, H.E. Ms Berro-Amadeï stressed the importance of energy efficiency, a reality that is now possible as a result of significant advances in technology, and that is capable of promoting healthy, sustainable economic growth.
Finally, H.E. Ms Berro-Amadeï explained that the Prince’s Government has also invested efforts at the international level in promoting sustainable, balanced, responsible and inclusive development, highlighting as an example Monaco’s role within the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the Principality’s support for renewable marine energy.
