The Société Monégasque des Eaux, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, has launched an initiative aimed at helping primary school pupils in the Principality discover, understand, protect and save water.

A “Discover Water” educational kit was developed by SMEAUX and presented on Monday 6 November to a Year 6 teacher at Révoires Primary School by Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, Isabelle Bonnal, Commissioner General for the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, and Manuel Nardi, CEO of the Société Monégasque des Eaux, in the presence of the school’s Head Teacher and students in the class.

The “Discover Water” kit offers multidisciplinary and interactive learning activities on four major subjects: the water cycle, water filtration, water flow and the purification processes water undergoes before it is released back into the environment without contamination. The kit also comes with a teaching guide for teachers.
This teaching aid is a tool to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of water and sanitation and learn where tap water comes from, where it goes, and how it is recollected and recycled. The kit encourages the active participation of students, who take a scientific approach and lead their own learning experience through experiments carried out in class.

Water is life”: this message was not lost on the students, who sang a song after the presentation at Révoires school, a certified Eco-School, which hosted the event as part of its environmental education project.
Kits will also be distributed to all Year 6 classes in the Principality as well as to staff at the Prince Albert II Leisure Centre.
