On Monday 8 April, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the opening of the photo exhibition of Responsible Traders and Restaurants in the Principality. Organised by the Department of the Environment, the exhibition can be visited free of charge until 2 June at the Galerie des Pêcheurs (Parking des Pêcheurs). It presents the certifications and photographs of traders and restaurant owners who are committed to a transition to sustainable consumption.

In 2015, at the initiative of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Government set itself the ambitious goal of developing a zero single-use plastic waste policy by 2030. To help economic stakeholders in this process, a Responsible Trading certification programme was created in 2016 and joined by a Responsible Restaurant equivalent in 2020.

This free and voluntary initiative encourages sustainable consumption by favouring short supply chains, local products, by generating less waste, and adopting practices that enable the balanced management of resources. To date, there are over 100 certified businesses throughout the Principality.

The project owes its success to the tailored support offered by the Department of the Environment and Ecoscience Provence, a non-profit that provides technical assistance to retailers and restaurants in adopting good practices in the areas of waste management, single-use alternatives, energy and water management, and local and ethical consumption.

The exhibition showcases the economic stakeholders who have decided to make this commitment and is a reminder of the willingness of the Prince’s Government to support and assist them in implementing these environmentally friendly measures.

The exhibition runs until 2 June 2024.
