On 12 and 13 June 2023, Christophe Pierre, Director of the Digital Platforms and Resources Department (DPRN) in the Digital Transition Office (DITN), and two of his colleagues, Côme Sauval and Laurent Curnier, project managers, took part in the 9th Fiware World Summit, which this year was held at the Vienna Town Hall in Austria.

A major event in the area of Smart Cities, Open Source and Open Data technologies, the guidelines for this annual meeting are set by the Fiware Foundation, a non-profit organisation created on the initiative of the European Union. The latter wanted to encourage the emergence of an alternative European platform for the development of intelligent services. This platform, the Fiware framework, is currently used by over 300 cities (mainly metropolises) and regions. It is a collaborative, innovative, open and modular environment in which developers, researchers, businesses and local authorities can share solutions, ideas and good practice.

The 9th edition of the summit, which brought together over 150 global experts, was the opportunity for discussions about initiatives in relation to current challenges, and digital transformation projects in certain economic and strategic sectors, such as intelligent cities, mobility, health and agriculture, and industry 4.0. The DPRN participated in three conference sessions which focused on the following:

₋           The Prince’s Government's Smart Cloud, a hybrid model combining the benefits of the public cloud (provided by Amazon Web Services/AWS) and the Monegasque Sovereign cloud (Monaco Cloud). This approach enables the Principality to benefit, via the public cloud, of the latest technological advances, especially in the area of artificial intelligence, while, thanks to the Sovereign cloud in its own infrastructure, it can retain control of sensitive data and keep it secure.

₋           These are the solutions chosen by the Principality, to help its transition towards an intelligent and sustainable city, especially in the areas of mobility, the environment and tourism. They are based on Fiware components which simplify the development of intelligent applications and services based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and real-time data processing. This also aids collaboration with the Government’s various partners and the neighbouring regions.

Regarding the Prince’s Government’s choice of a hybrid cloud approach, Christophe Pierre highlighted the opportunities presented by the foundation and Fiware technology, both of which “open up new possibilities for Smart Cities, creating an intelligent, connected and resilient urban ecosystem. This synergy between the hybrid cloud and Fiware offers innovative solutions to shape the future, aligned with citizens’ quality of life”.
