Monaco's Speech at the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly
At the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on social, humanitarian and cultural affairs, Mr. Benjamin Valli, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations, gave a speech as part of a debate on issues related to refugees and people who are repatriated or displaced and on humanitarian issues. At this meeting, he recalled the Principality's tradition of welcome and the Prince's Government's commitment to helping refugees and vulnerable people in the field.
In view of the alarming statistics showing that 65 million people have been forced to leave their home, he stated that it was essential for the international community to find dignified, humane means of ensuring that these people did not have to risk their lives and the lives of their family by resorting to traffickers who exploit them
Mr. Valli therefore called for the implementation of an effective system for sharing responsibility for refugees, thus ensuring a collective, organised and timely response to crises involving displaced people, as well as making available the necessary means.
He concluded his speech by emphasising the importance of supporting the educational needs of refugee children, recalling that above and beyond a basic right, this was an essential condition for their integration into their host country.
