Monaco ratifies its eighth Hague Convention on Private International Law
The Principality of Monaco recently deposited its instrument of ratification to the Hague Convention of 13 January 2000 on International Protection of Adults, becoming the ninth Contracting State to do so. The Convention will come into force for Monaco on 1 July 2016.
The Convention covers a range of private international law issues, including management of the interests and protection of persons with impaired or insufficient personal faculties.
In these circumstances, a clear set of rules was required, to determine both applicable law and the authorities competent to take and enforce any measures necessary to protect persons or their property.
The ceremony was held at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of
H.E. Ms Sophie Thevenoux, Monaco's Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr Christophe Crovetto, Counsellor at the Embassy of Monaco, Mr Joseph Damoiseaux, Head of the Treaties Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, and Mr Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General of the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on Private International Law.
