31st Session of the Human Rights Council Monaco speaks out on Rights of the Child
During the 31st Session of the UN Human Rights Council, which is being held in Geneva from 29 February to 24 March 2016, the Monegasque delegation has made two speeches on the Rights of the Child, a priority of the Prince’s Government both at the national level and in its international activities.
- On Monday 7 March, the day devoted to the Rights of the Child and focused this year on the theme of Information and Communications Technology and Child Sexual Exploitation, the Principality detailed the measures set out in Monegasque legislation to combat violations of children’s rights committed using information and communications technology, as well as the awareness-raising activities that it conducts for children educated in Monaco.
- During an interactive dialogue on Tuesday 8 March, which discussed the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, the Monegasque delegation welcomed the work carried out by the Special Rapporteur, whose most recent report analyses the root causes of child sexual exploitation. The Principality also announced that it would make a voluntary financial contribution to help support the work of the Special Rapporteur during 2016.
The Human Rights Council is the main United Nations body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights. It meets in Geneva, where it holds three regular sessions per year as well as extraordinary sessions to address emergency situations.
