Alternatives to single-use plastic tableware
As part of its Zero Waste policy and in order to achieve the ambitious goal of "Zero Single-Use Plastic Waste by 2030", the Government has taken a series of measures aimed at progressively banning the following single-use plastic utensils:
- Since 1 January 2019: plastic straws and drink mixing sticks
- Since January 2020: single-use plastic plates, cups, glasses and cutlery
In addition, the Department of the Environment is making technical factsheets available to help local players in the choice of new supplies that are authorised in the Principality. Whenever possible, local players are strongly encouraged to choose reusable alternatives.
