Launch of new Holmium 120W laser for urological surgery
Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG) today unveiled a brand new laser for urological surgery. Mr Stéphane Valeri, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Mr André Garino, Chairman of CHPG’s Board of Directors and Mr Bini, CHPG Director, were all present for the occasion. The Holmium 120W laser was purchased thanks to the generosity of Mr and Mrs Pappert, who made a donation of €100,000 last December.
The equipment, which is remarkably powerful, versatile and safe, is used by Dr Hervé Baumert, the new Head of the Urology Department, to treat two main conditions: bladder stones and prostate adenomas.
Following this acquisition, CHPG joins the ranks of the very small number of hospitals making use of such equipment. The physical properties of this latest-generation laser enable all types of bladder stones, even the largest and densest stones, to be broken up and treated through a natural opening in the body without the need for surgical trauma.
The laser allows a minimally invasive endoscopic technique to be used to treat prostate adenomas via a natural opening, avoiding the need for “open surgery” and thereby significantly reducing the risks of bleeding and postoperative complications.
Government Minister Stéphane Valeri was keen to thank Mr and Mrs Pappert, who attended the unveiling, emphasising that “this new, cutting-edge equipment usefully complements Princess Grace Hospital’s high-quality technical facilities.”
