Monaco’s Police Department, represented by Police Commissioner Chief Superintendent Richard Marangoni, the Head of Monaco’s National Central Bureau (NCB), and Chief Superintendent Christophe Haget, Head of the Criminal Investigation Division, took part in the 12th Heads of NCBs Conference at INTERPOL’s headquarters in Lyon on 26, 27 and 28 April.

During a private meeting with the organisation’s Secretary General, Jürgen Stock, the Monegasque delegation discussed the status of international cooperation and the various tools used by the Principality in the fight against organised crime and terrorism. Mr Stock congratulated the Monegasque authorities, whom he had cited as an example at the Davos Summit at the beginning of the year, on the roll-out of the I-Checkit* project in hotels starting in 2014, and the reinforcement of operational capacities at the Heliport and at ports in Monaco.

Over the three days, the 151 member countries attending the conference drew up a comprehensive assessment of the terrorist threat throughout the world, and particularly in Europe. A draft conclusion was adopted by majority vote, regarding the efforts countries should make to:

-        identify and locate foreign terrorist fighters;

-        strengthen cohesion between the various NCBs to prevent environmental crime and dismantle criminal networks;

-        reinforce NCBs as “national communication centres”.
